6cd changer not working!

Hi all,
I have the standard 6cd changer in the boot of my polo but recently it has stopped working. It has power as you can hear it fire up but every cd will read "cd error". Has any1 had this problem before and got round it or does it look like I am going to have to buy an aftermarket one?

I had the same problem as you dude.It's a common fault with the units to be honest,there is a shop on ebay that will repair it for £70.I had mine in peices and can to the conclusion it was the laser not reading the cd's correctly.

There are loads for sale on ebay as they were fitted in lots of VAG cars,i managed to get one that was from a Skoda Octavia VRS in immaculate condition for £25.The prices vary so much seen them go for £10-£110 you just have to be patient and wait for a bargain to come up.Be careful though as there were earlier versions with different pin plugs on the end so make sure the part numbers correspond and you should be ok.

i re-fitted the standard unit when i bought mine to use the cd changer, at first it was alright but then it kept saying cd error, and it would play the cd but not realy the sound although it was all connected but persevered and it now runs fun. think sometimes over bumps can affect it
i will often start the cd player before i move off
