Car having issues - vagcom codes inside

Post by MrP »

Got a problem with the GTI - Now... The car has been misfiring the past couple of days, which after replacing the coil, HT leads and spark plugs and playing about with a few loose connections which seemed to fix the misfire.. But It's still massively down on power, hesitant and judders, the emissions check light appears but is intermittent.

Had it plugged into VAGCOM -

3 Faults Found:
16556 - Fuel Trim: System Too Rich: Bank 1
P0172 - 35-00 - -
16556 - Fuel Trim: System Too Rich: Bank 1
P0172 - 35-00 - -
16514 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B1 S1: Malfunction in Circuit
P0130 - 35-00 - -

Now, is a new lambda (pre-cat I assume) needed or is the lambda playing up becuase the car is over fuelling from another issue?

Any help would be great as I need to drive back to home as I've finished uni in a couple of days.

Thanks in advance.

Bank1 refers to the lambda. I would try changing the fuel filter and running some redex or similar and seeing what happens

Its quite possible you have damaged wiring under there, so id have a look around the lambda wiring and see if all is ok.

Is this the pre-cat or post cat I should be looking at?

Well, looks like 2 wires have snapped!! The brown/red and the white.. On the actual engine loom wires which fasten to the lambda and they are very close to the plug itself.. Bad times..

Best thing to do is get a new plug and crimp the wires into new connectors, as you cant just crimp them back up unless you get silicon high temp ones which are hard to come by

Can you get a pic of the damage?

All repaired now (temporarily) so I can't get a photo. sorry.

The wires had just snapped about 1cm from the plug which fastens to the lambda plug. Being so close to the plug I couldn't get a decent solder job, so a new plug is needed as I'm fairly sure these will snap in the very near future.

Do you know where to buy these new plugs?

I've been offered a full GTI loom for £25 which I can cut and shut together for a better solution?
