Central locking and key problems

Post by thowarthGTI »

Hi I'm new to the site,

a couple of months ago i bought a silver 3 door gti with the OEM leather interior, and i love it! :), untill a week later when the gearbox went, but thats all fixed now.

I do have problems, mainly the central locking, the key fob doesnt work, I have a new one which i need to get programmed. i no that you can do it yourself by turning the ignition on and using the new key in the door, which brings me neatly onto my next problem. the barrel in the drivers door fell out a couple of weeks ago :(

before that the drivers door wouldnt open the door just lock it, and when you open the car with the key in the passenger door and get in the passenger door the alarm goes off! but no if you get in the drivers door :S are these usual problems? lol

I do have a few other issues but this is the one that is causing me the most agro,

Can any one give me advece?

Cheers :)

Thats the alarm system - you can only deactivate by key on the drivers door. Get the barrell replaced with a repair kit on ebay or from a dealer then program it again :)

what are the other problems?

Cheers mate, I still have the barrel but all the pins are in a car park some where, will a repair it from eBay work?

The other problems are just little things like paintwork. Also on the back of the car under the light there is a small crack I both sides, is this common? Or a sign my cars been in an accident? :(

Cheers,

Tom

Could I ask how to deactivate the alarm "by key on the drivers door"? Sometimes the remote doesn't want to work so I just stick the key in to open it. I try to re-sync by turning the key and pressing the remote but this doesn't always work. So I give up and just open the car with the key then jump in so the alarm goes off.
