What do I need in order to query my ECU?

Post by Noodoo »

Morning folks.

Can someone please tell me what I would need to buy/acquire in order to carry out diagnostics on my Polo? I believe I have a 6KV 6n/6n2 crossover.
I have checked behind the ashtray in the dash and found a purple diagnostics port which looks similar in size and shape to a SCART connector.

One of the guys on here told me that the car is CANbus. Someone else told me to look for an OB2 cable. (Cheers guys. :) )
eBay turned up a variety of OBD2 cables, but they claim to not work with CANbus. Also, the VDCS Lite software says that it won't work with CANbus.

Can someone please clarify what cable and software I would need for the job?

Thanks in advance!

If it helps, here's the motor in question:

Its ODB2 kline not canbus. Canbus was introduced in 2002.

Any of the 409.1 ebay vagcom leads will work fine.

For anyone who is reading this further down the line, it also worked fine with my older (P plate) Polo. It only queries the Engine and Immobiliser though.
