Do us an easy-read list of the needed bits again? :)

Well i'm a small part of the way along, took the noise-reducing (and air restricting) "trumpet" off a couple days ago, now it makes a grand farty noise when I floor it.... so long as the engine's warmed up or I take the hot/cold feed vacuum pipe off :D
Noise level above 65mph is even more minging than before though

How much did you pay for the breather pipe, Doug. I've just got some new black heater hose from Halfords for £2. Not bad, and its good quality stuff - ie not squshy and bendy. :D

yeah the stuff i am using is also from halfords, its 15.8mm diameter or 5/8", one metre is £2.40!

the lack of interest is worrying, has everyone else done it themselves? is it too costly?

please let me no as i am waiting to start on a couple!

I managed to find some of the mk3 golf bits at my scrappy. Thought id give it a go. Got to give it to you, my car never sounded so sweet, and with an aluminium heat shield i created, it looks the part under the engine bay. Also my K&N air filter was free so that kinda swayed me into doing it myself.

But i appreciate you posting the idea. Top stuff!

Sorry, Doug. I think I must have kicked off the craze of doing it yourself by extracting the studs.

Hopefully people are still interested in the idea, so if you are, PLEASE give Doug a shout, so that he knows exactly how many people are still interested. A quick post on here is fine, just so we know how many.

Thanks!

I am teetering on interested. I have an offer of a filter, and some ducting off someone, but am not sure what else I need, apart from the golf mrk 3 spi air box and pipe. Maybe I could arrange for some parts needed from you?

You might have to give me til next month, or maybe later, as I'm gonna be hit quite badly by a wheel refurb. Just outta interest whats the full price of one of your systems (all parts needed)? It could work out cheaper buying the whole thing from you, rather than me gathering up bits from all over the place.

Thanks.

around the £80 mark, does come quite costly when u start adding all the parts up! but that is everything u need apart from the allen key for the bolts

filter £44.64
eblows for breather £3.98
breather pipe extenstion £2.40
inlet pipe plus top part (modified) around the £10-20 mark (depending on the breakers yard)
jubilee clips
bolts
labour!
p&p

see, it does add up!

how much for the bolts and air box?

i can get the extension pipes and filter myself.
The cost of the whole kit hurts my pocket.

i'm feeling slightly more flush these days (despite the fact that after all my paychecks go in, and i pay my rent arrears at the end of june, i'll still be overdrawn - but not crazily :D)... i'm still thinking of it.

however i'll think harder in the morning, when i'm not all fuzzy at the edges, and can concentrate on the text

Thats quite good! 8)

I was offered a filter and the ducting for 48 quid, then I would need the air box and other bits. It probably would have come to more had I done it that way. Right then, when I'm a bit more minted I will give you a shout!

Thanks.

OK, so which bits do we have to source ourselves, and which bits are we signing up to Doug for?

As far as I can tell it's get everything but the modded bolts yourself :D (halfords bits - pipe, elbows, jubilees - are easy, then a cheap cone filter, and a scrap golf intake...).

Unless we make it a group buy on bolts and filters, and get in contact with some large breakers somewhere to cache intakes for us and flog the pile cheaper as they're a guaranteed sale? :D

And remind me again - any chance of even a slight power boost, or is it just the nicer sound and smoother airflow/response? :) (suppose the cat really has to come off first)
