hey guys, got a mechanic i know to replace the timing belt today and i handed over the parts which i had recieved from vw which the guy in the dealer assured me i needed for the job. i got a timing belt kit and a water pump. my mate has imformed me tonight that these cars have 2 timing belts?? ones for the cams aswell?? i thought the timing belt was the cambelt?? i am kinda confused and you guys are probably thinking i am completely retarded but i was wondering if anyone can elaborate for me???

This cars are what is known as DOHC engines, which means they have 2 cam shafts. There are two belts because one goes from the crank shaft at the bottom to the first camshaft, and then another belt joins the two cam shafts together
Take the kit back to VW and get them to give you the right one based on your chassis number as they obvs dont have a clue what they are doing.

As Alex pointed out you should have received two belts in the kit.Get the kit back and corrected,also tell them you want discount for wasting your own and your mechanics time lol.
