The other day (whilst my bf's G40 is in the garage) I took him to Oxford to pick up a brake conversion for his car. on the motorway my ABS light came up, and stayed on until the car was turned off for a little bit.
The next weekend we went on the motorway again to go pick up a sub for his car. Again the ABS light came on.
When we got home we popped round to a mates house who plugged in his computer as he has vag.com and the fault came up as 'ABS Hydraulic Pump Intermittent'
I've looked into buying the part -and even a second hand one is like £200+ on eBay. i dare not even try a scrappy as they seem to always ask me for more money then if i got the part brand new from VW. (...I imagine the price for the labor isnt going to be to plesant either.)
My boyfriend said not to worry to much and said he'd check the connections and stuff before i start spending money.
I found a Video on YouTube from a mechanic who said 'they can be quite a common fault on the polos' (but he was talking about a '02-03 plate' so i dunno if he means across all polos :S) ...but the main thing he said was it can often just be the fuses and bad connections ect.
I was wondering if this problem has come up for any of you guys? was it just do do with fuses? or was it the attual pump? and if so how much did it cost? and did u get the work done when it had attually broken, or just on the way out like mine.
I love my car and dont mind spending money on him but do you think i can hang on for a while before getting it done? or should i just bite the bullet?
i dont normally go on the motorway much. just tend to drive around locally. and the abs still works fine otherwise....granted it doesnt normally come on but in the recent rain and going over a pumpy batch in the raod his abs kicked in fine and all was good.
Ive got my MOT soon. im hoping it doesnt pop up on the test. (knowing my luck itll pack up altogether the day before
