key fob

Post by greeny2515 »

as im sure u have noticed, the key fob tht the polo 9n comes with is quite poor. i mean its very petty of me to put this as a topic but i was wondering if the key itsself could be put into a flip key fob like the golf has.

ive been on eb@y and there r alot of flip keyfobs about from vw's, even though my car doesnt have central locking i aint tht bothered if the buttons dont work :/ just want something different i guess

The flip keys will work okay as far as fitting the lock is concerned, after they have been cut. The big cost will be to get the transponder programmed, if VAG do it for you you can get one more key added so keeping the original key(s) for back-up, other programmers will usually just clone the existing key. One thing to watch out for is that the transponders that VAG use can only get programmed once - and reckon that another flip keys that you buy from ebay will be used fobs with new blank blades. That is not a show stopper though as there are new transponders available elsewhere and they are quite cheap. I would not expect that you would be able to remove the transponder from your basic key and fit it into a secondhand flip key - usually they will break as they are fragile little phials of glass.
