Head Unit Problems

Post by tombarrack »

Hi, I'm the proud owner of a new Polo GTi 6N2. I'm absolutely delighted with it!

I thought I'd quickly swap my aftermarket head unit from my old car into the Polo. I've got it in and everything works fine - it finds all the radio stations and stores them and turns on (and off) with the ignition. The problem arises when I lock my car. It seems to throw the memory system on the head unit meaning you have to turn it on manually and restore all the stations. As you can imagine this is a bit of a pain. I assume it's something to do with the 12V ignition feed and the alarm. I've read other topics where people are having problems with the alarm going off unnecessarily.

I can't be bothered hiking into Halfords for them to charge me a fortune in return for fixing one or two wires.

Thanks.

Swap the red and yellow wires on the back of the radio. That should cure the problem on it. If it doesnt, there may be another wire in the loom that needs disconnecting, but try that and let us know how you get on.

Hi, there doesn't seem to be a yellow wire in the loom. There's 6 wires coming into the block. One is a thicker brown wire (I think this is the earth) and a red wire which seems to be a constant 12V the other four are blue/grey wires. I can't see a yellow wire but it looks like the loom has been chopped about a little previously. I can upload an image if this helps.

EDIT: Scratch that, I was being an idiot. I thought you meant the wires in the car loom as opposed to the radio loom. Changed them and everything works a treat! Thanks for your help!
