75W/90 is correct for gearbox fluid for the Polo, had mine done a few weeks back

Thanks guys, I want to try and do this on the wife's 6N2 this weekend while I have some time. I just need to know the amount, it's not listed in the Haynes manual..

Better still use Stainless steel bolts on the differential links if anyone has this problem.They'll outlast Titanium ones.

Titainium is not stronger than steel my friend.Titainium has an excellent strength to weight ratio and is corrosion resistant thats it's benefits over steel.Steel is however alot stiffer and holds amazing tensile strength over Titainium.Think of Titainium as a cross between Aluminium and steel,corrosion resistant & light like aluminium yet stronger than Aluminium.Trust me i found out the hard way when having components on my bikes fail in the past,scares to prove italexperkins wrote:Titanium is stronger though in any case

Just thought I would add that Stainless Steel is not the best of metals to use on cars, especially for engine and gearbox parts. High Tensile Steel is often used far more than Stainless Steel because its a lot stronger. Car manufacturers dont tend to use Stainless on any engines because it doesnt have the same strenght properties of High Tensile Steel.
Replacing Bolts that were HTS with SS is never recommended on any high stress parts.
Stainless does look pretty though

you know i thought it was, but i'd also heard 16v's have 60bhp too and i typed my registration into my insurance website when i renewed and it came back with 60bhp 1.4 s, and mine has 1.4 16v on the engine. Car manufacturers dont tend to use it because it is more expensive than mild steel,if car manufacturers made eveything too good nothing would need repacing.Although i know Honda have used Zinc plated bolts of some of their cars to withstand the elements better.

Very fair point there Bradley and I do agree with you, car manufacturers certainly wouldnt use stainless on all of their cars due to cost and mild steel/high tensile is perfect for most parts. My dad is a toolmaker and he works with Stainless steel everyday so always rants & raves about how good it is but he does say it certainly isnt as strong as HTS. There are different types/grades of stainless steel and it can be made stronger as the quite correctly said but it will never be as strong as HTS.

There is a metal called Stavax which is a fairly low grade of steel which can be hardended and turned into stainless but again it doesnt have the strength properties that HTS does. When the properties of Stainless steel are changed such as the compound of materials and their percentages are altered it can in fact rust which not alot of people know. Some types of Stainless can rust, where as Pure Stainless steel will never rust.
Pure stainless steel is also alot weaker than High Tensile Steel.
Stainless Steel isnt used so much these days for drill bits either because Tungsten Carbide and High Speed Steel are much stronger.
I am not saying I dont like Stainless because I can't rate it enough but if you ask any manufacturing or engineering company they will confirm that it does have the same strenght properties as your average High Tensile Steel.
