Insurance renewal.

Post by dub envy »

I got a letter through the post the other day saying my insurance runs out soon, so I phone Bell Direct to see what they've got to say about my modifications...

Basically, the non-standard exhaust/wheels/suspension/interior will bump my premium from the £329 quoted to $533. When I asked the girl how much would I getif my car was to be written off, and she said I had to phone the quote line to find out... So I phone the quote line, and to cut a long story short she said they dont cover modifications, so even though I'd be paying $200 more per year for having a modified car, they wouldnt actually give me anything over book price should the worst happen....

So I phoned HIC after seeing an add in the Golf mag, pluss they still hold 4 years no-claims for me since I stopped insuring my Golf with them a year ago...

Now HIC said that they will insure my Polo for £434 f/comp with all the mods listed, and stick an agreed value on it of £1000. The insurance would be like-for-like and with salvage retention...

sounds pretty good I think. Maybe I'll phone them tomorrow and see if they can get any lower.

Insurance can be a PITA. I spoke to an agent the other day to get Connie's car insured, and he seemed worried;

"...it's not a GTI or VR6 or anything, is it?..."

I guess they've gotten a bad rep over the years.

Good luck Rob!

I just went with Brentacre Insurance Services, a VW specialists, they were great. I'm only 20 and their quoto was £590 for my polo with alloys, sports exhaust. I got them down to £515 and they added class 1 business uses aswell.

I gotta get my insurance with one of them then! I'm looking at 2800 quid for a standard 1.3CL at 17 with a full UK licence with Norwich Union. They sure didn't quote me happy. I have to take pass plus before I can get my insurance down to a manageable £1200.

Karl.
