GT Needs a new turbo...

Post by GR33NIE »

My GT started making a strange noise a few weeks back now which only can be described as a wolf whistle when the turbo boosts :o

VW checked it out and there is an internal fault which means it needs replacing, oh well heres the best bit:

Parts £750ish
Labor x3.5hrs @ £100ish
Total Repair cost £1250ish

The look on the service receptions face when I told them it has extended warranty? Priceless  Anyway I still love the car but it's yet another thing to go wrong with it, it's only done 45K miles! Been back now for several faults, getting slightly frustrating I must say seriously considering selling up now :(

mate speak to will at p-torque first he may be able to sort something out for you regarding the turbo... great guy and very helpful he is a mapping wizard lol made my 100 so much quicker and smoother! i think mine has made one of the best numbers on the forum for a standard 100 other than the map 146 bhp 240lbft, youll be good for 175 - 180 bhp mate!
good luck and tell him danny says hi :D

Tell me about it mate :D Reason why I bought my Polo GTI from dealers with 1yr warrenty  a month later the car needed a new radiator

I would suggest keep the car till the end of its warrenty and if its still giving you trouble then probably better flogging it :(

dan you do no a majority of the dynos are actually off by quite a bit  so what they tell you may not exactly be tru  ull get about 130 135 i recon if that.

i know the sound of a poping turbo all ill say is dont do long distances you never know when you get that sound however it does last quite a bit and can prbly go on strong for sumtime. best way to hear it is 3rd gear, give it some welly when its not reving too high and you shoould hear it screaming.

146 can be right as a fella over here in Northern Ireland claims his remapped TDI pd100 was dynoed at 151BHP but place where he was getting it dynoed had a faulty sensor so was
giving out extra 5BHP more reading than actual. But think anything between 135-145 would seem right, personally I wouldnt want to risk both the turbo and clutch for an extra +5/+10 BHP

Yep it's not the standard turbo whistle, sounds more like an actual human under the bonnet whistling lol  Seriously though it was like a wolf whistle on boost not the standard noise you get

Fixed now and back to normal :D Next to fix suspension bushes :x

By that do you mean the console bushes?!?! I had a look at mine the other day. What a poor design.
