Could be one of 3 things

1. cable needs oiling
2. your pedal box is about to snap
3. your release bearing is worn and needs replacing

Pedal box is expensive in labour as the steering column has to come out, but the part is about 30 squids

Release bearing again cheap part, but the gearbox and clutch have to come out to fit. Most people have the clutch done at the same time.

It really needs a proper diagnosis - where abouts do u live mate?

south london mate.if i grease the pedal is it easy for a mechanic noob.
i dont think its pedal box as most pedal box symptoms are struggling with reverse ect,i have no gear problems touch wood.
alex im not 100% sure my gti has defo had the recall,if it aint would vw still do the work free?

Depends on mileage and age mate all you can do is call and beg :P

Youd have to remove the cable which if your not confident with mechanics can go horribly wrong
