6n AFH 1.4 16V Persistant Idle problem

Post by JonnyM »

Hey guys, i have a 98 6n 1.4 16v polo with an idle problem, I here you all shout search but hear me out. I have tried TWO new throttle bodies and the problem persists. Its been on VAGCOM numerous times now and still come back 00282 Throttle Position Actuator (v60) 36-10 open circuit- intermittent. I have tried every thing and replaced every vacum hose with red silicone hoses and all the gaskets. I am losing the will to live trying to find the cause of this, am I missing something? Am I Stoopid? Please help!!!!

yeah, its over fuelling mate, thats why its rough on idle, you got ramps? get the car up and check your catalyst, if thres rattling coming from it then its f****d lol, if not then id say your lambda sensor mate. the lambda sensor reads the exaust gases then decides if the fuelling is right or not. if either the cat aint filtering the gases or the lambda reds wrong the ecu wud push more fuel through, causing the bad smell lol

Youll still need new lambdas if thats the fault. A decat would just make it worse if you dont fit it.

Its only coming back with 00282 Throttle Position Actuator (v60) 36-10 open circuit- intermittent. Thats with a new throttle body and basic settings done.

Thats your problem. The TPA controls the idle RPM. You must have either a short circuit or a bad earth somewhere. Check the wiring condition out

....im going to just check the workshop manual for diagnosis procedure.

Ok It says Open circuit defines wiring open circuit.

It states it will cause cold start problems, cold idle problems, idle problems, and hard load changes.

To check its working

Choose Engine 1 on vag com
measuring blocks
choose group 8
look at box 1
4th postion from left with closed TB must show 0 ie 00000000

Slowly open TB by pressing accelerator.
After you get rid of free play in the cable with your foot, and keep pressing and the figure will change to 00010000

If its always 00010000 then its an open circuit

Where are you getting these TBs from? Are you replacing the whole thing?

Its most likely a wiring fault
