Gti Headlights in a non-gti? HELP!!!

Post by laura-lou »

ok so I've got a set of gti headlights, ready to put into my non-gti.

how easy is this to do? I've searched the "search" but couldnt find anything to answer my question. Has anyone done a 'how to' guide?

also, is it possible to use just normal bulbs in them? obv they wont be xenon but i dont mind about that. i bought them purely for the look of the actual headlight, and then plan on buying a xenon kit to use with them.

they headlights didnt come with bulbs so can i just put a normal bulb in, or should i buy the proper gas ones off ebay - someone said they are loads cheaper than the £90 at dealer!

please can someone shed some light? ;)

Do you mean use Halogen bulbs in the projector part of the headlight for main beams?.

Have you got the ballast on them? If not you'll need a d2s kit from hids4u to make it work. Also, you cannot use halogen bulbs for dipped they have to be xenon hid due to the bulb fitting.

hi - well after opening the lights up we found they still had the bulbs in... and they came with the ballasts so i crossed my fingers and plugged them into the car and they worked :)

no need for any bulb swapping etc.... all there in the headlight. so just had to sort out the damaged brackets and we were done :)

heres a pic (ignore the littlw gap above the passenger side light - the bonnet wasnt sitting right but its been adjusted now.

is it true you need washer jets when you have xenon headlights?
I was going to put some on my old SE but was put off when I heard this as I didnt want the hassle of changing them every time my mot came around.

I think it is required for factory fitted units, but for some reason after market units do not need to comply.

Something to do with European directives as the washers are required as part of the UK, but not for European delivered cars hence this check only takes place at manufacturing stage.
