D90s on a GTI tyre sizes etc

Post by chris meardon »

Hi guys,

Never really posted on here but i have had my GTI just over a year now

At the moment i have the standard BBS wheels and have recently purchased some D90s,

they are 8s all round is there going to be any rub if i use a 40 profile tyre, its the front I'm concerned about

I have the adaptors and everything i just dont want to buy tyres if i need a 7j on the front

Its rather low as well

Thanks

You may struggle.

what tyres you looking at, 195/40s?

What size adaptors are they? and what's the ET on them?

It depends on the ET, I know some are in the region of 53, some a lot lower. What's the ET on the 8s?

Have a look on the inside of the wheels, or possibly on in the bolt alcoves. It should have a figure next to the letters 'ET'.

Other than that, do some research into what offsets are available with the 8J wheel. As there may only be one.

Personally.. for D90's i had 7's front and 8's rear and it looked beautiful.... Not sure about tyres sizes... i have 20 mm adapters 4x100 to 5x130 all round...

52.8, brilliant.

Right, that'll mean go for some 20mm adaptors, taking the ET down to 32.8.

ET32.8 with 16X8 wheels and 195/40 tyres isn't bad at all.

However, if you want a serious stance and are prepared to do some swapping around, I'd perhaps go for some 7s up front. Being such a high ET though I wouldn't feel this is necessary.
