Actually I thought that all of them except the Germans were standing up for common sense, but I've found that Belgium folk are a lot more aware than we are in general about what happened there mainly on their land, they still have to live with the disruption of ploughed up ammo and bodies.Instigator wrote:ok, no worries mate's

We just happened to stop in Ypre one summer - and discovered a lot about what we as GB people should have known about, it was made very clear that it was expected that we would go down to the Menin Gate for the daily ceremony - a bit humbling to say the least.

that town played an important role in the WOI,
so it's pretty normal i guess that they would let you guys discover alot from it, specially about the war.
Menin gate memorial to the missing, alot of British guys have lost their lives in Ypres...
but there are some pleople who are a bit "to" dedicated on such ceremonies.
it's their own way to say "thank you" for what GB has done for Belgium those days.
i must say that Belgium does a good job of trying to keep history alive.
if you ever have a change, go to "Tongeren".
you might find that interesting as that town is the oldest in Belgium and one of the best reserved places in the world when it comes to roman history
