Re: Nigel's GTI - The Big Coilover Dilemma

Cheers for all the input and suggestions guys.

Really appreciate the offer too Rich (MrP) :)

After having spent a few days having a look around and based on your comments, I THINK i'm probably gonna go middle of the road and go for AP's. They seem fairly reasonably priced and seem to have good reviews. I'll start saving and will hopefully have an update on the coilovers for you soon.

On another note... I ordered some LED sidelights from UltraLED's. They've arrived today and just need to fit them now. I tried ordering some new indicator units last week as well from eurowagens but they didn't have both in stock. It's a really great website so hopefully I'll order them again from them soon and do the indicators and sidelights at the same time. Are LED indicator bulbs worth it?

what an offer!! Anyone got any experience with D2 Coilovers? I know nothing about them but judging on the price they sell in the UK at... they're hardly budget coilovers!

Once again, Thanks Rich :D What a brilliant find!

I may have to invest.. time to get saving :D

I've done some research and they are meant to give a really, really, really good ride, they aren't as comprehensive in adjusting abilities compared to the likes of KW etc, even though they state 36 settings people say its realistically more like 6, but they are a fraction of the price of KW's etc. Some people have reported leaking shocks, but meh, it happens to all coilovers at some-point so I'm personally not worried about that. From what I've read they are mid-high range coilovers so would presume these fit in-between AP/Wietec and KW.

Hi mate, I have a set of Spax coilovers sat in my garage.

Not fully adjustable, but can set between hard & soft ride.

Had them on my car for a good while & can really vouch for them.

PM me if interested.

Cheers

If they are SPAX RSX coilovers then they are fully adjustable

Yeah best to check mate, I'm running the RSX coilovers on mine and they are fully adjustable (both height & damping)

You might get a few more bucks for them if they are RSX Coilies 8)

Re: Nigel's GTI - Removing my CD Player

Post by nigelelliott394 »

I'm having an absolute headache trying to remove the CD player in the dash... I want to get rid of it and fit a cubby hole instead (something I miss quite a bit since owning the GTI) So i decided to swap the cd player in to the other car.

I fashioned a pair of removal keys using an old credit card and it successfully removed the radio but for the life of me I cannot get this CD player out!! The keys (credit card) is in the slots but there's just NO movement, it's as though there's something else holding it in :( Any advice? Help?

you need to remove the spacer insert above it first

Then you really need to use the proper VW keys or halfords etc to get it out as they are very picky about latching to keys that arent proper! ie not metal as they dont disengage the locks properly.

Got the keys... came out easily enough although i managed to get one of them stuck but after a bit of pulling and prising it eventually came out :) Now, to fit the CD player in the diesel and steal back my cubby hole!
