Clutch Replacement

Post by neilw »

Its getting harder and harder for me to select gears now, mainly reverse, I get abit of a crunch. Is this a sign the my clutch is nearing the end of its life or just the cable? The cars done 93,000miles now and Ive not had it changed since I owned the car since 30,000 miles.

What is the likely cost to have it replaced at an indy?

About £200 - £300

£100 for the clutch and the rest for labour..

Make sure you get a good clutch like Sachs, Vaelo or LUK.

How stiff is your pedal? have you tried adjusting the clutch cable?

Thats around the figure I had in my head for some reason. The indy I use, uses genuine parts, I will check the brand, but i guess it'll be one of the ones you mention.

The pedal doesn't seem to of got any stiffer. I've not adjusted the cable at all. I'll have a read up on how to do that.

Vaelo is OEM I think.

Literally on the top of your gearbox you'll see the cable, and a black nut style thing, it may be stiff, but you can rotate that to tighten or slacken the cable.. Try tightening it..

Cheers I'll give that a go first. If theres no improvement, I'll take it down the garage and see what they think.

Vw clutches are expensive though. It may be worth getting a price from gsf as they are the same parts
