Turbo whistle

Post by g__humm »

I have a whistle that comes from my car every now and again. If it's been sitting on idle for ages it will do a sort of man made whistle. No boost is loost but this goes after a little while.

Any ideas the turbo has done about 6000 miles

Hi mate,

Mine does that sometimes as well, i think that it might be a build up of pressure as i just give mine a dab on the throttle then it goes away for a bit but then comes back 30 seconds or so after. I havent noticed any power loss so i'm guessing that it must be something that they just do.

Mine is a standard GT

Cheers

You still got the EGR or have you deleted it?

Ok, the EGR operating whilst idle can change the turbo note a bit. A faint whistle is normal.

My old 1.9 TDI did it mate after i had my straight through put on, and a mate of mine has the older 1.9TDI engine with straight through and his does exactly the same. Like the lads mentioned above, it dissapears after dabbing the gas peddle, but then comes back couple of mins or so after when stood still. I woudlnt worry about it. I used to love the sound of it whistlin on tick over, and wooshin when changin gear :D
