Unlucky Rich :( Gutted for ya

I'm sure you wont be the only victim of the Icy conditions.
The year before last I clipped my dads car after sliding on the ice which smashed my indicator and scuffed my front bumper.

Bad times..

I'm more pissed off at myself as I've never damaged a car before.. Stupid white van man, he just came over the brow of a hill as I was coming the other way and he was sliding towards me as the brow is also a turn... I had to accelerate to get past him whilst turning left towards the curb for more space and instantly then turning right to get down the hill... The car just locked up and skidded.. I just literally grazed the curb with the outside of my wheel. Lucky it was just a scrape and not a bang so no bumper/sill/steering component damage was caused..

Better then facing a 30mph slide tackle off a Fiat Dolbo anyway.

I've just ordered a replacement NOS wheel in the correct size/offset, it's got light scuffs and paint chips so it's cheap, but it's getting powder coated anyway so I'm lucky in that respect.

It's a sub £100 repair and i'll have a spare wheel. :D

Least its a relatively cheap fix, its the hassle that goes with it thats the main problem.

Yeah, relativity cheap..

Not much hassle tho, new wheel gets delivered, I strip the original paint at work using the sand bath. Wheel gets taken to a powder coaters around the corner. Then the car goes to get the tracking done and the tyre/wheel gets swapped over.

Better than the hassle of a written off car.

brilliantly eye catching title!
thank god you did what you did and thats all that came out of it.
i dread the snow as i just dont trust other drivers.

specially living in a hilly area, they either go to slowly up hill and start sliding back down towards you. or when going down hill dont think of the people trying to get up and that they need momentum and the person coming up ends up having to stop halfway up the hill to give way as theres a car parked on the side of the road and the twit coming down just happily sails past. grr

Yep, that's Sheffield for you, it's the only place I know where you go up a hill to get to work and up the same on the way home.. lol.

I wasn't driving fast at all, but this van must have nailed it just to get up the hill and just slid when he got to the top/corner.. Wrong time, wrong place..

Don't be too hard on yourself. You took evasive action and avoided what could have been a much worse outcome. Wheels can be replaced ;)

This pretty much. Its the time of year we all wish we had either a huge 4x4 or a crap cheap car that you don't care much about.
