Right haven't been on here for a while so quick little update:

CV boot done, lovely job with all that greece. Tracking and camber adjusted. Haven't really got round to a lot with the car as uni has been really busy. However i did manage to get a cheap new boot liner off ebay and i have also got some of those Wolfsburg, ABT tuning backing plates which i like.

Sorry for lack of pictures. The car needs cleaning now anyway after all this horrible salt :( I also have the back seat bottoms in my bedroom drying out as they seem to be damp.

Also been looking at reconditioning the RXII's for the summer season. Does £69 a wheel sound a lot??

Good work so far

Hmm sounds expensive. Check out wheelrefurbishing.co.uk they are much better priced and well respected

£69 isnt too bad provided the do a good job on the outer rims.
You would be better off having a go yourself mate, it costs about £25-30 per wheel centre to get them sprayed up and of course refurbing the outer rims costs pennies. It all depends if you have a spare set of wheels to roll on while your refurbing the RXII's

Endi, Going back to a while ago when you asked about the aerial... since then I've replaced my sharan aerial with one from the new 2010 Polo. It's a bit longer but it fits perfect and the reception so far has been better than the standard aerial that came on the car. Just thought you may be interested :)

Thanks Nigel. It has really been annoying me how intermittent it is. Think i will head down to the VW garage and take a look now :)

I did think about having a go by myself and see how i get on. I have some Wolfrace 15" that i had on the 1.0 6n2 you can see on the first post of my thread, where they are both in the field. They would fit so it could be done. So basically i would rub down each wheel and then spray them? What is the best paint? However if i sent them off to this place in Exeter they would be powder coated. I did think about putting on the wolfraces for the winter but as the RXII's are flaking now there is not much point.

I would have the centres sprayed professionally mate as you suggested.
Its only really the outer rims you can refurb yourself.

What look are you after?
Polished outer rims with powder coated centres? Thats the most popular look with RXII's

That sounds like a good plan mate. Im not really sure to be honest. I like they way they are now apart from the flaking of the lacquer. Are the centres powder coated standard?

Went to the local VW garage yesterday and ordered the 2010 polo aerial :D Will be here tuesday. Thanks for that one Nigel :)

However i asked if they could get me some new 56mm VW centre caps for the alloys but they said they stopped catering for them a year ago :(

I dont think they were powdercoated as standard but im not 100% certain on that.
Polished lips look immense when they are done properly and you cant go wrong with the standard wheels, they always look right on the GTI. The 15"s can look small at times so a popular upgrade on here is to replace them with 16" RXII's :)
Finding a set in 4 stud pattern can be difficult howeve and 9 times out of 10 they require a refurb.

The 56mm VW caps are still available from Volkswagen but your best getting a set of eBay to save a few bucks.
Alternatively you can get yourself a set of 56mm BBS centre caps which also look very cool

Thanks mate. Would really like a set of 16" RX's but money is the only issue :( Im saving up for a refurb now though :) will make it look a lot better. maybe when the spring is here :D

I did look on ebay but couldnt see any genuine ones :( and they all said 55mm. I do like the BBS ones but i think they would look better with a black one like yours. Sometimes i wish mine was black

Right then update time.

Went up to kent this weekend to get some new front seats :D I did like the standard ones but i just wanted something a bit nicer. Saw these on ebay and i am so pleased with them. They are the comfiest thing in the world. I think that they suit the car as well with the red stitching. What do you think??

not a fan of after market seats myself but I have to admit they look pretty good, any chance of a wider shot to get the full affect?

Not sure yet. They are not that much darker than the standard ones. Depends on the light. The red stitching is the same. Think ill leave it for now and see how funds go :)

Yeh the red stitching is a good match and what with the car being red it looks good, get rears re-trimmed and have someone stitch 'RECARO' in them to, then it will look as though it was meant to be, that or take the rears out and add some harnesses?
