VAGCOM - which one

Post by wackojackso »

Right I'm going be a right paint cause I can't find a clear cut answer via the search but maybe someone can make this a sticky once we do have an answer.

I want to buy a USB to OBD-II cable (I think) so I can read the fault codes on my 6N2 GTI and my dad's 9N. I believe later VW's then use the can interface is this correct?

I also would like to be able to change the adaptation settings in various controllers to enable and disable features.

So what do I need links would be good.

Thanks in advanced guys and gals

P.S I'm sorry if this has already been answered.

You can change very little on the GTI.

Main things are headlight self level reset, Throttle Body adaptation and turning on the beep when you lock and unlock the car

For adaptation that is really about it - the rest is for monitoring engine functionality or running output tests!

The 6n2 requires a 409.1 cable. Some 9ns will work with a 409.1 cable as long as they are pre canbus - the best way to check is by looking at the connections on the back of the radio - if they are ISO its precanbus, if they are quadlock its canbus

If its a canbus one, youll need one of the newer cables for 601 or newer (I think its on 8xx.xx now), but you will pay alot lot more - expect £100 plus for this kind of lead, and then you must only use the software supplied. If you upgrade it, the lead will short circuit and no longer work.

Well I'm fairly sure my dads car is OBD-II as it has a beta radio so thats good. Are there any recommended sellers for the cable and that on ebay? Also the software they come with, does it enable you to access the adaptation stuff or do you need to pay for a license to do that?

Any seller will do tbf mate - it makes no difference as all the cables are the same!

Itll allow you to do some stuff, but you may need to 'tweak' the install if you get me...
