FIS cluster retrofit?

Post by blazeguarder »

Has anyone managed to retrofit the full FIS cluster into their cars? How easy/expensive is it to do?
This was only fitted as standard to cars with factory navigation systems, which was an option box that very few people seem to have ticked...

Hmmm, I must have missed that guide, found a couple of others but that one seems pretty good.

Thanks for the link! :D

Seems like mine may have been one of the few with that box ticked then :D

@lm_gauci - To say I'm jealous is an understatement.

@Jeff GTi - yep, I'll update this thread if I manage to get this to work. Might take a while though as the instrument clusters are apparently quite expensive, so I probably won't get round to actually attempting it for a while...

Is there anyone on this forum with any experience of doing this?

Pardon my ignorance, but what's the difference? Is it just cosmetic?

There is a pretty noticable cosmetic improvement, but the full FIS also allows you to see more information than the standard trip computer allows. It displays the standard fuel economy and miles till empty etc, but also displays the radio station and has pictograms for low fuel/low oil warnings/doors open etc. There are a few other functions as well I believe.

In short, it looks cooler and displays more information in an easier to read layout. Seems a bit more useful than the standard computer in the clock screen.
