So As promised, I've got a bit of an update with plenty of little things that have been going on with the car over the last while.

First off just before winter arrived I got myself some poorboys wheel sealant... unfortunately, the snow arrived a bit too soon and i never got a chance to apply it. I've bought some calliper paint though and plan to get the GTI garaged some time over the next few weeks maybe and apply it while I've got the wheels off to do the callipers.

Image

A few other things I managed to get before winter was a nice boot lining that I'm sure some of you saw the link to... absolute bargain! I also put in some rubber mats I had from when I bought the car and took the original mats out to keep them good over winter. Could maybe do with another good clean!

I ordered some LED's for my numberplate lights... managed to wreck one of the bulb holders though when I was removing the old bulbs so I had to steal one from the diesel and then repair the broken one with a ton of glue. See my efforts below!

I then decided to accompany my new numberplate lights I got some new plates... the old ones were really bugging me as I hated the font and the 'Polo GTI" written at the bottom of them. At first I contacted dubmeister asking if there was any way I could send them a photocopy of my documents to get some pressed plates made up but they never got back me. I took this as they didn't want my business so I went elsewhere.... ended up buying a set on eBay sold as show plates but in the UK font. They look pretty good but who knows how long they'll last and if I'll get pulled or not for them :? I'm pretty sure the spacing is a bit off but so far so good though and held on with Heavy Duty Velcro!

Nice LED Numberplate Lights :)

Also as stated earlier I had enough of the CD player as I never use it and wanted my cubby hole back... no pictures but I'm sure you all know what it looks like! I hope to get some kind of interface (I'm thinking Dension Gateway Blue) That keeps the standard OEM looks but adds some bluetooth functionality for my iPhone. A2DP streaming would be nice with an optional cable to charge if I need it.

After being so impressed with the LED numberplate lights I ordered some LED sidelights and went about fitting them... bit of a hassle but got them in in the end. Here's how they look :)

Image

As a bit of an experiment and upon seeing Ben's (6N2 GTI 00) black badge, I decided I'd follow suit and see what it looked like. I'd never sprayed anything before so I saw this as a great opportunity to give it a go!

The badge itself turned out well but unfortunately after having put it on the car and looking at it.. I'm not sure I like it. From a distance the car almost looks debadged and that's not really the look I'm going for. I like how the chrome breaks up the front end so I may change it back.

Image

That's all I've got for now but I do have another LED on it's way to me for the interior light and I'm waiting on a new VAGCOM cable to arrive as my last one broke... hopefully I'll be able to see if the coolant temperature sensor I had fitted earlier in the year solved the fault I had and I'll be able to see why my ABS light was intermittently on during the first wave of snow we had.

Hope to have another update soon :)

Liking the update :)

On the topic of calipers, dont paint them till things warm up. Due to caliper paint being mainly enamel based, it wont set properly and will dull, plus it will stay rather soft :(

Badge works, but I see what you mean about the look. As for the plates, they dont look reflective, nor do they have the BS stamp on so I can see you getting pulled with them quite easily lol

Nice update Nigel 8) looking very good indeed

Love the new plates & LED numberplate lights! I have got a set on mine and they look awesome at night, makes the pressed plates look like a giant billboard.
LED Sidelights are a great upgrade too.

Nice job on the badge although I know how you feel about how it alters the look of the car.
I actually prefer the black badge on mine at the moment because it breaks up the front well but that will no doubt change in the summer haha

Looks really good dude.

Really liking the black badge now! Dubmeister are pretty rubbish really, messed up my plates first time as well. However they are legal in the UK.

Also let me know how you get on with the wheel sealant. I wasn't to impressed on applying it. Not the consistency i was expecting

Cheers for the comments guys :)

@Alex - I have a couple of pictures I took where the flash came on automatically where it looks reflective and i've caught a glimpse of them at night with headlights on them so the only thing they're missing is the BS stamp... which my other plates didn't have either. If anything I'd say these are more legal than the last set. To be honest, I'd like to think the police have more important things to be doing over here. Cheers for the comment on the callipers btw :) I'll be sure to wait until about Easter!

@Godderz - I'll let you know how the sealant goes :) I've heard it takes a good 2 or 3 coats before it's effective.

Had new tyres fitted yesterday... was swapping the back to the front today when that happened. Presumably the place that fitted the wheels back on used an air compressor and over tightened it. Apparently they also "alligned" my wheels too but to be honest, I'm pretty sure it's worse than before. Still pulls to the left :(

I think i'll get the slightly better type of locking wheel bolts that don't have the 3 wee pins in them.

Yeah I will do... where can I get hold of a set of new bolts and what sort do I need? I was just hoping to replace all 16 now that this has happened.

I think after this, I won't be going back to the same place.
