Someone hit my parked car! :( Final Update!

Post by 5509433 »

Hi Guys,

Got back from London last night, got in my car and saw a piece of paper on the windscreen. Read it and it was a phone number, and said I hit your car door..

So i get out looked at my door and there a massive dent in it!

Here's pictures i took this morning..

How would you guys handle this?

I have no idea how much a new door will be, or if I should go through my insurance..

Thanks

Well lucky they left you a number

Ring them first and say do you want to go through the insurance if not just price up a new door colour matched and all and get the money off them and get it done ! :D

Iye Rhys is spot on! Give them a bell first and see if they want to go through their insurance (maybe they don’t have insurance).
I would just price up a new door with spraying etc and send them the bill. Plus a little extra for the inconvenience

Ok. Thanks. Im assuming this will not effect my insurance in any way in terms of price?

Im fed up of being a young driver (19) and paying ridiculous prices!

Thanks again.

Well if you go through the insurance then yes it will effect the price.
You will loose your no claims bonus and that will have an effect on the next renewal.

If it was me I would just get it fixed and get the person who hit your car to pay you cash.
I'm sure they will want to avoid insurance claims too because it can take months & months to get the money.

Iye it sucks being young at times, especially when it comes to getting car insurance.

I would call them and ask if they want to go through the insurance. If they say no price up a new door and get the cash. Then call a Vw breakers and get one and save some cash.

Also, is it their number?

Decide what you want to do with regards to going thru insurance or not.
Tho alot of the time it's easier to not as things can get done quicker.
And the other person will probs prefer not to.
You do the research and tell them the costs. A mates bike got reversed over by some divvy, they kept trying to get him to take the bike to their mates garage but he stood his ground and said no as he wanted it done by a garage he knew and trusted. In the end it went thru insurance and probs cost the person even more.

If u do go thru insurance it won't effect your no claims as it goes thru the other persons insurance mot yours.
My car was written off 2 years ago and I kept all my no claims as it wasnt my fault and it all went thru the other chaps insurance.

Let us know how it goes! I hope everything works out ok for u!

my car was hit last year while it was parked... pretty bad too rear quarter was screwed i managed to track down the friend of the guy (who he was visiting at the time) who hit it and pestered them everyday for a week ! they got him to contact me and i made him go through insurance else i would have been without a car and i needed one for work, i still had all my no claims and my premium didnt go up at all, if i was you it would depend on wether you could be bothered with the hastle of sorting it yourself... i personally would go through insurance with it... oh and mine was done and back in just under 2 weeks it only takes months if there is a liability debate where there wouldnt be as you werent even in the car so the other person has to accept full responsibility

It really depends - that kind of damage you are looking at a repair bill of at least £500 once you have a new door, rub strip, paint and labour to swap it out.

Most people wouldnt front that kinda money, so try speaking to the person first and see how they wish to proceed. If they want to go outside insurance, you need to get a quote that wont change from a bodyshop (an approved insurance repairer like nationwide for example) and get the money off him/her prior to the repair work being done.

Failing that, get their full insurance details, call their insurer up and state that you have been hit by the owner of blah car and that you wish to file a claim against their policy.

Hey guys thanks for the input!

I called the guy's number and discussed it with him, he's was an elderly fella (that explains how it was considerate of him to give me his number!)

His foot slipped on the pedal and went directly into my car. He was very apologetic and mentioned that he had already called and let HIS insurance company know about the incident.

So, currently were in the process of getting a quote from my dads mates body work shop. To see what sort of price he can give us. Hopefully the insurance will sort it all out.

And I've been told my insurance wont go up as it was not my fault.

Thanks, ill let you know how it goes from here!

Re: Someone hit my parked car! :( Little Update

Post by 5509433 »

Little update.

I've sent pictures the the company who will be dealing with the repair, and they have sent the pictures to be approved.

Got a call saying it is repairable, but the guys who are involved are debating whether of not its going to be a write off!

Its only a door for christ sake! And If it is a write off, I may just have to cry!
