My Polo 9n 1.4TDI Sport

Post by chirag1988 »

My first car was a 53 plate polo 9n 1.4tdi sport in that bluey-purple colour back in 2008...had it for all of 4months then it got written off in an accident which wasn't my fault :( went and got an astra after that, used it for about 1.5yrs then thought, i want my baby back, so went on the hunt for a polo and BINGO! found the exact same model as my old one, 5-dr 1.4 TDI sport but with the new climatronic LCD display and Cruise Control as an added bonus! :D below is a pic on the day i bought it, a beautiful summers day lol

Next to come is the interior footwell lights, a shark fin aerial, double-barrel exhaust, 9n3 tail lights and a new head unit! Any other recommendations?

Criticism, opinions welcome :D

i bought the HID kits from this seller on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT

H7 for your main beam and H3 for the fogs. Well i had to do the fittings in 2 sessions due to lack of daylight during december, but you can do the whole lot during an afternoon. You'll need to take off the front bumper and remove the headlight fittings to fit your dipped beam H7 and LED sidelights, and if you got fogs then you'll have to take out the fogs and install them.

When doing the fogs, I took the whole bumper off and brought it inside the house, fitted the bulbs and the ballasts and everything, then just took it outside to fit back on and plug the power source back in and it was fine :D

hahah 3 sets of hids on the car  , just a warning though, for the mot the main beam ones are likely to be pointed out as they dont come on at full brightness straight away which is a requirement say when flashing, the dipped beam dont create a cutoff pattern with the bulb being too bright, the front fogs arent a requirement although some use the if its fitted it should work but still they shouldnt be a problem,
good choice of exhaust, although id say the tips would look better a little closer together

Sorry to hijack slightly, but how easy are the ballasts to wire into the car?

Cheers, Mike

unlbeleivably easy, h7 bulb is 2 pins, take the plug off that (as you will be putting the discharge bulb in place anyway) and the spade connectors which will come off the ballast for the hids, shove into the plug that used to go on the bulb,

i may have wrote it more complicated than it actually is, the only thing to look for is which spade goes to which wire on the plug, but if it doesnt work the first time then swap them

That is unbelievably easy - so plug and play :D

Thought it would be splicing to wire etc

Thank you!

will the straight-pipe reduce my economy at all or affect it in any way? also i'm going to ask the guy if he's got some different designs, where the barrels are closer together. when you say without resistors, is that the black mesh you can see inside the barrels?

what i want to achieve is something that looks good (gonna have it flush to the bumper so it doesn't stick out too much) and also something that will give it a nice deep sound...

Haven't been on for a while so I thought I'd give an update. Done a few more mods since the HIDs. Changed the rear lights to 9N3 (Thanks to K.I.T.T. aka Ash for the wiring looms!), added a shark fin aerial, got some VW dustcaps, added footwell lights (hopefully put a better pic up soon), changed the bootlight and installed a new sound system! See pics below :)

Probably be a while now until i do anything else...was going to do the backbox but need to save up money now and give it a couple of months...then get that sorted and also some tints.
