How to fit 40mm Lowering springs

Post by willson1992 »

hi guys,

Just bought some apex springs, 40mm all round.
for 1.0 1995. MK4 6n polo.

But i'm a bit confused as to how to fit them

I could have got it done at the shop where i bought them from, but they wanted £80 for the springs, £40 fitting, and for £40 labour, it cant be that hard.

Does anyone have any guides/wakthroughs as to how to fit them?

This is the car they're going on.

Cheers in advance

ideally you need springs compressors... i have a set and hence change mine and most of my mates set up from springs to full coilies etc

its not hard at all, just quite labour intensive, especially the first time as your original suspension probably hasnt even been touched before so alot of tight or rust bolts etc to deal with

basicly if you have spring compressors, what you do is;

jack up and secure car, take the wheel off, for the rear there is one main bolt you will have to unscrew to dismount the rear shock absorber, normally i take the whole thing out but i am normally changing the whole springs and shocks etc, so change your spring and tighten the bolt back from where you took it out
the front is were the compressors will defo come in as youll need to unscrew( think its 2 bolts on the polo?) and the top mount bolt to get your setup free
once out compress sprints down and unscrew top pieces, noting the order they come off, take spring off and compress new springs if need be and fit the whole setup back together
once this is done its just a matter of ataching top mount back on once on car and lining the 2? bottom bolts up and tightening them up

if you werer near i couldve done it for a small surcharge but hey

good luck anyway =] let me know if you need anymore help

Just got back from amsterdam.

I want to go back haha

Ah well

I will hopefully do them tomorrow, dependant on the weather, and because i've not seen many walkthroughs for a polo, yet lots of questions asking how.
I'll do a walkthrough :)
