Is the noise from the central locking pump in the boot much louder that it used to be.

Central locking

The air that is being pumped is escaping somewhere, it may just be the pipe has come off the pump in the boot, if its that just clip it back on, if not you will have to find out where the leak is, pipes go to each door, petrol flap lock and boot lock.

Central locking

They all make a noise but if the air is escaping it will be louder and the central locking will not work.

If the car is under three years old and has had the servicing done by VW I would expect it to be covered, check with dealer before letting them loose on it as you may get an unexpected bill, if it is not under warranty to keep costs down I would recommend taking it to a VW specialist rather than a main dealer.
