Strange temp light guage any ideas

Ok since its been cold the temp light has come on first thing and flashed at me. It goes away after the cars run for a small while and I turn on and off.

Motorway run at the weekend and the temp guage is hovering between 60 and 90...Alway usually sits dead at 90 once warmed up..Not sure if these issues are connected but anybody got any suggestions or had a similar problem. Am thinking it might be the temp sender playing up but any help appreciated.

Its on a 1.9tdi sport.

Not sure about the temperature light flashing, and I have never had this problem on my 1.2 petrol Polo, however I drove a Passat TDI through france in the summer and extreme temperature (in this case too hot - the car sat in the traffic around Paris at 39*C !! for a couple of hours) meant we blew the water pump but this also blew the thermostat.... a new sensor cost £4, so may want to get this checked as potentially the cold has damaged the sensor. Hope you manage to sort this

I'll see how it acts up later...Guessing you have to drain some coolant to cahnge the sensor...

Hi im new to the board

I have the same model and it only happens when the car is cold. Like you say after it warms up the warning light stops when the car is restarted. Think we should just send to vw
