Re: VW POLO R
Thanks for the link interesting stuff, I like the look of the R, the Variant would be a real alternative to a Golf and the Cabrio looks fab. The roadster has been around for a while and it would be nice to see VW make it.
Back to the R the info is conflicting as the picture (photoshop job with Golf R front end)
All a bit of fun but I don't really believe this is reality but I may be wrong.
Re: VW POLO R
yes thanks for the link, i really hope they do bring the polo r out, as far as i can gather it will be awd as audi have been testing the audi a1 quattro which the s1 will be based on and also the polo r, as share the same platform, however still non the wiser on what engine it will have, but everything ive read said it will be more powerfull than the gti model, so hopefully finger crossed it will be awd, all we can do is wait, but ill definately be looking at them when they are available if they ever are, but once again thanks for the link maybe someone else can give us more information about the car
Re: VW POLO R and others
This whole tale about a Polo R has been rumbling on since april/may 2010. At that time VW said there were no plans and denied it. (Not unsurprisingly when you have the new GTI out)
In Autocar, related to Paris motorshow news, there was all the discussion about the hot Audi A1 which had been pencilled in as the S1 (with same engine as GTI) but at last minute they downgraded the model from S1 to just a 1.4 TFSI. The talk was, that the Board had agreed that the Polo/A1 platform could be re-engineered to take 4WD and they could then get a few models out of it (Polo R, Audi S1 and maybe a Skoda mini off roader, anyway that sort of thing), making it worthwhile on the economy of scale. Autocar also said that the Polo had been taken to an advanced stage of development
Anyway Audi showed off their test vehicle, an A1 with quattro in Canada a few weeks back (see What Car, Autoexpress) and this week's Autoexpress say it's been confirmed for a Polo R but they then say it will be Front Wheel Drive for about £21K and the Audi will have 4WD... So its anyone's guess and before you say it, yes I know Autoexpress cannot be trusted, but things do seem to point towards there being a Polo R. So Hurrah..we'll just have to see in what form it appears. The engine talk is still about a 1.6 turbo with about 210-220bhp. I think this is probably fairly accurate with a lot of motorsport heading towards 1.6 engine capacity (F1, rallying) and it has been rumoured for a while that VW might head into more motorsport involvement
I'm not sure I can run to £21K, so I am more excited about rumours of a Polo GT / GTD model which would fit inbetween 1.2 and GTI.

Re: VW POLO R
Based on the price of the FWD A1 at just below £21k the A1 quattro will be very close to £22k so the S1 will probably be £26-27k as there is around 4-5k between A3 and S3 and similar between Golf GTI and R. Therefore the Polo R is going to be very similar money to the S1. This then is the same price as a new Golf GTI! :shock
In early 2010 I was very interested in the Golf R and Rocco R and had a test drive of both. However once I started to discuss costs these quickly came in at around £33k with a few extras. Although these are fantastic cars I could not justify the price so bought a Candy White Mk6 GTI which on the road feels 95% as good at the R for signifcantly less money. I just wonder if the same will be true for the Polo GTI and Polo R?

Re: VW POLO R
Bit more on the Polo R for anyone interested...
Seems to have a 1.6 TSI engine and produce between 200 and 210 horses
