Linkage help

Post by Dom_ »

Evening, guess it's time I sorted this little out!

I'm pretty sure my gear linkages need to be re-aligned as neutral is sat far too forward, and if I want reverse I have to down, back a bit and then across to get in reverse..however I don't get any grinding when changing or going into reverse :?

BUT, I think I have too much free-play in the linkages...when the car is in gear (mainly 3rd of 4th) you can move the stick quite noticeabley to the left and right. I was having a read on some old topics on here and someone mentioned the bushes in the linkages, will this cure the problem and which ones do I need to change (part numbers please :D) so I can then get them re-aligned at VW?

Thanks in advance!

That would suggest you have a misaligned gear linkage, and possible worn bushes.

The only people that can 100% realign the box is VW as they have a special jig that slots into the gear mechanism to space it perfectly, so it may be worth calling your local dealer up.

Cheers, certainly seems that way. Will get it on a ramp at work and have a look underneath and see if I can workout which bush has gone...needs a service now anyway so going to whack some fresh gear oil in too...

Would be nice to have a nice tight stick for a change...oooer :D Will take some lube with me when I go to VW too :P
