Hi again mate, my typo error i meant to say wing mirror and the small deflector at the base of the door glass, not rear view mirror... Hope i didnt confuse anyone!
Yeah sorry about that.... yeah basically because of the angle of the doors i.e narrow roof and wide wheel base, the water just drips inside the door and rather than dropping to the bottom of the hollow door, like on most cars, it lands on various things mainly wiring looms and the cover for the speaker. It then tracks into the car rather than out and hits the plastic membrane behind the door card, runs down to the bottom and fills up a bit. This is meant to happen but over time the water had perrished the sticky glue/scilicon holding the membrane to the door and started coming in. it drops out the bottom of the door card under the speaker and onto the door gasket, it then pools on the small crease on the gasket and trickles in onto the carpet... lovely wet car!
I hope this helps, i know you seem to have sorted your problem, which can i add my polo seems to sort its self out alot of the time, really odd, but it might help someone else with a leak cos theres not much on tinternet about it.
