Refitting A-Pillar Trim

Post by JeromeC »

Hi

I took the A –pillar trim off on the driver side in my 9n3. Now I’m struggling to put it back on properly, I just can’t get the three retaining clips (that were left in the A-pillar itself after I removed the trim) to catch back on the trim.

Any tips on this?

So you've got the clips (which look a bit like white, plastic screws) located on the A pillar trim?

You may need to adjust their location in the mounts a bit to get it to line up properly. Get the bottom part of the trim into position in the dashboard first. It can be fiddly, but don't force it and it should slide in after a few attempts. Once it's located at the bottom, it's pretty much lined up but look through the windscreen to see whether the clips are lined up, if they aren't then you'll need to slide them about a bit until they are. Then it's just a matter of using the palm of your hand to knock it back into position, start at the bottom and work your way up.

Hope this helps.

No actually the clips are in the A-pillar not the trim (see photoes below)
Do I need to somehow remove them from the A-pillar, slide them in onto the trim and then try to fit the trim back?

Ah my mistake, didn't read your first post properly

You need to remove the clips from the pillar itself and refit them onto the piece of trim in the first photo. A pair of needlenose pliers is good for getting them out. Once you've slid them onto the plastic trim, you can then refit the trim back onto the A pillar. You may need to slide the clips about a bit to make them line up with the holes though.

Trim tool is best but if you don’t have one two small flat blade screwdriver will work, put them either side and pry gently outwards.
