Diesel or Petrol?

Post by Steves6n2GTi »

Hi guys 'n' gals, i'm looking to upgrade my 6n2 gti this month for the 9n3 but looking on autotrader im not sure what to buy...

I wouldnt mind going for the gti as it looks awesome and is pretty damn quick but looking at the diesels, with some basic tuning they could be just as fast and you get much better economy, what do you think?

Also is the 1.9 tdi 100 the same engine as the tdi 130?

You're opinions would be much appreciated, im not adverse to some basic mods and tuning so not too bothered about styling and handling as im probably gonna alter that anyway...

Cheers

iv got a 9n pd100 mate remapped goes like stink to me personally (146 bhp, 240 lbft), pd 130 and 100 bhp wise are not the same the 130 gives you the 6 speed box, 280 mm front brakes i think ? I believe the pd100's have smaller brakes. there is speculation that the pd100 & pd130 have a different bottom end but I was told by p-torque there identical though.
not too clued up on this tbh mate but pd 100 can be easily made to 175- 190 bhp... but dont forget the brakes arent as good lol

all the best dan

sounds nice, 190 bhp polo... i'd imagine a break upgrade isnt too much hastle, its simple enough on the 6n2. So rare to find a nice diesel, been looking for the past few weeks with money burning a hole in my pocket! Gotta spend it soon, found a nice gti but the economy is worse than what im driving now!

differences as hes stated above plus they also have bigger turbo and slightly bigger intercooler + tiny bit bigger maf and map sensor as i found out when changing mine. i have a pd100 with a pd130 turbo and intercooler and a remap its pretty quick. i can keep up with standard gtis.

no lights mate. all you need to do is the turbo, intercooler and map sensor that fits in the intercooler. then map it

I hada PD100 9n3, had that mapped and straight through zorst, sounded awesome for a diesel and went pritty well. Roughly running 140bhp and alot of torque. Surprised many of people at the lights :D. However, i gotta say, after selling up and moving to the GTI, with the 312mm brakes, and a REVO remapped, bout 200 - 210 bhp. F**k me, this car feels like summat else. Its a little mean monster, eats type Rs for fun :D. But just for the record, my TDI with remap returned about 40 - 50 mpg ont road, and about mid 60s ont motorway. GTI gets about 22 - 26 ont road, and at its very best on motorway is about 35-40. If recommend goin test drivin some at Veedub matey if you can :D

If you can afford to run the GTI then get it.

Obviously if your going to tune a diesel then it will keep up with standard gti's but do the same mods to a gti..... bye bye diesel.

the finish and interior is different, much more pleasent to be in and just the tiny little gti touches you notice make all the difference.

Yeah, i'm reconing on the gti. Can't resist that magic 200bhp mark... Dont think i could go from my gti to a diesel, i'll just have to save some extra money for the mpg.

Besides i'll be saving money by not trying to make a diesel look like a gti and like you say the interior is a little bit smarter not too sure about the checkered patern seats though

Hopefully be looking at it sometime next week maybe even this weekend, cant wait...

Perhaps they look nicer in the flesh rather than in photos.... I was only joking they're not too bad, anything is better than the boring grey thats in my car at the moment.

They aren't really as obvious in real life as they are in photos. Obviously it's clear that they are chequered but they don't look out of place in the car. Really comfortable as well lol

They do look comfy, they look like they have big side supports... Hold you in when cornering.

Unfortunatly i still havent bought one yet! gotta get my car through an MOT, the abs light is on and im in the process of fixing it.
