Will 205/55/16 fit 9N?

Hi, im thinking of buying a set of montys but they have 205/55's on. i know they are golf tyres, but my polo is not lowered. will they cause any scrubbing or problems?
Need a quick answer please.

Sport has lower suspension than standard model. On my 9n I was advised to go with 205/45/16s, and the GTi on the 9n3 (off which my GTI Monza alloys came off) had 45s on........... would advise against 55s as I've heard people have problems with 55s on full lock.

Regardless of scrubbing, it's going to cause error in your speedometer reading as the rolling radius is greater. Check it out: Tyre Size Calculator

Hmm i see. well basically, i saw a set of monty 2's for 200 delivered, and ive been looking around like a month or two now and they sell for like 250+, so i thought i may aswell get them. the tyres are almost going bald, so ill run them for a month or two, and get all 4 changed.

The montys will fit fine but you will find the n/s/r arch will rub if you go round a right hand turn at 20+ mph. If you drop down to a 45 profile then you'll be spot on with the speedo and no rubbing. Your car will also look like its on stilts with 55profile too. Iv got 205/55/16 monty 2's and the rubbing is a bit of a pain but it looks like a mini 4x4. Im going to be dropping mine to 45's in the near future.

Cheers boss, Rang up my local scrappy, and they said they can sort me out some 195/45's for £30 per tyre. That doesnt sound not tooo bad.
Not sure about standard tyre size, but i do know cars that had montys on, came with 205/45/16. Mines a sport and it came with 185/60/14, then again the previous owner went through like 4-5 sets of different alloys! apparently?!

As long as the circumference is the same then there should no problem. Any bigger and the wheel arch plastic cover will rub on ur near side rear as the arch plastic is moulded to go away from the exhaust. I have heard that if your running bigger rims on the polo's the bearings can go but tbh the bearings on my a3 look almost identical and i was running 17's on that with no probs so 16's shouldnt have any probs. Just spend a bit of cash making sure the wheels are balanced and the tracking is good and im sure it will be sweet.

Also, depending if ur tyres at the mo are ne good speak to scrappy and see if they will do a part ex for your tyres

Standard sizes go something like this:
14": 185/60/14
15": 195/55/15
16": 205/45/16

The arches are all the same on all the models so stick to these and you'll be fine.
