Why won't my 6n2 stop breaking??????

Post by Problem_child_Polo »

Dear fellow Polo enthusiasts,
First, I feel I must commend you on your incredibly good taste in cars, and secondly I would like to draw upon your collective knowledge to help me with my Polo issues...
I own a 6n2 1.4SE (the 75bhp model) on a W plate which, quite frankly, is giving me beef.
I've owned it for just over a year and had a catalogue of problems...so far the car has had 4 new cats, new coilpack plus leads etc, a new shiny pedal box (it was somewhat disconcerting when the clutch pedal just fell off), a new starter motor, and a new ignition barrel. It also had an engine re-build in 2007.
Now, for it's latest trick, it has started cutting out when you come off the gas (normally on the approach to roundabouts, traffic lights etc) it seems to make no difference whether you change down the gears or not and is quite sporadic. Some days it wont cut out at all, other days it will do it every time you slow down!
Has anyone else had this problem, or have any ideas what could be causing it? Or does my Polo actually hate me?????
Many thanks in advance for your help!

Get a can of carb cleaner and clean the throttle body out thoroughly. That should fix or in any case improve your situation :)

I had similar problem. You should check out the brake switch. He is located under the brake pedal. On Polos 6n2 if the brake switch is faulty, when you press gas pedal nothing happens!!! Hope this will help you 8)

sound like your trying to catch me up, but i think i still trump you when it comes to the car having issues and what ive done and spent to repair it,

ive heard of this problem previously and yes cleaning the throttle body does seem to resolve the issue (can you tell im at work?)
id give that ago before pumping anymore money into it... its your cheapest and best option, as for the brake switch i have had friends that have had them go in lupo's and theyve all accelerated fine,

Aaaaaah....thank you everybody!!!!
It looks like this weekend will be spent cleaning my throttle body then...definitely a better option than spending yet more cash on it.
Really appreciate your suggestions and will keep you posted as to whether it works! (ironically the little sucker did 120miles today without cutting out once...whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?!?)

Good News!!!
I wimped out of actually getting my hands dirty and risking breaking a nail cleaning the throttle body myself so I took my car to the garage to get someone who actually knows what they are doing to sort it out...the results are that for the princely sum of £38 I now have a car that is running properly...BOOOM!
It's made a huge difference, not only has it stopped randomly cutting out, there are also no flat spots when you accelerate now so I can really appreciate the full 75bhp of PoloPower.
Thank you all so much for the advice!
