Boot Door Sensor

Hi All,

Does anybody know roughly how much i'll be looking at if i have to have the boot door sensor replaced?

I only read the posts concerning the problem with the rear washer pipe leaking onto the sensor and boogering it up yesterday. Now this might sound daft but i've had the car 14 months and i didn't even know that it had a boot light, (cos it's never worked), i also never knew there was the dashboard boot open light, (cos thats never worked either), and also when i unlock the car and just open the boot the car re-locks itself after about 30 seconds. Now i thought all of these things were just a querk of the car but i now assume that the sensor has been knacked the whole time i've had the car and i just didn't know!!!!!

Now the last thing i had done under warrenty before it ran out in March this year was to have the rear washer pipe re-fitted after i found water leaking into the carpets in the rear of the car and under the rear seats so i assume this had also been going on since i had the car.

I'm gonna have a look a little later on to see if there's anything i can clean up myself but wanted to prepare myself for the worst case scenario of having to have the sensor or whatever replaced.

An update to the above posting...........................

I 've just put the boot door back together and it's all absolutely pristine inside, not a sign of water leaking so i think the rear hose must have leaked from in the main body-shell earlier this year.

The only thing left is the sensor itself as both the dashboard warning light and the interior boot light don't work.

I'm gonna try calling off at my dealer this afternoon cos i'm down that way going to a festival kinda thang so i'll see if they can give a price but if anyone still has any idea of a price they have been quoted or have paid for this piece of kit i'd appreciate it.

I've never had this problem, but you could try taking the boot catch mechanism apart and seeing if you can clean up the contacts (which I presume are in there?)
I wouldnt have thought its too expensive to replace though

I went to the dealers today and the woman in charge of the servicing dept. said she wasn't sure whether i could have the work carried out under warrenty as it ran out a couple of months ago. When i mentioned that the only reason i had never reported it as faulty before was that i didn't even know i had a fault due to it never working she said she would have a word with the sales manager to try and get it put through as warrenty work.

The car is booked in for next Monday to get the boot sensor / lock unit checked out so we'll see what happens then.

Hey WaveyDavey are you getting yours done at Gilders Banner Cross? if you are these boot locks must be bringing in good money for them as I'm shortly going to have mine done there too!

I was not pleased at all becasue this is my third time taking it there to have the same problem rectified, the first time they stripped the boot and realise what the fault was but because there was no parts in stock they have to rebook my car in when the parts came in...and then they fixed what they thought was the problem...but my key still does not fit into the lock (however the electrics are fine, ie. boot interior light, dashboard warning light and alarm!). third time lucky hopefully, so glad I still have warranty cos it would have cost me a bomb...

Hey there cyhliu,

It's being done at Gilders Hillsboro'. I gave it a good go with the "how could i report it under warranty if i didn't know the boot even had a light & door open alarm as it had never worked" argument. So hopefully they will push it through under warranty. If not i just hope it's something cheap like a wiring fault !!!

I got the car quite cheap for it's age cos it was very high mileage (45,000 at the time when just under 2 years old), so i thought well by the time i sell the car on i'll have got the mileage down to an average figure so i went for it. But it's been in to the dealers around 8 times now for warranty work.

new drivers seat base
new passenger side air vent
new front 12v power point
new coin tray & drinks holder
new CD changer
Rear wash hose leak repaired (was leaking down passenger side of car)
valeted twice when bought
new ABS sensor
new leccy windows switches on drivers side

First car i've had that's had pretty much anything wrong with it and it all happens to the same car!!!

Hi all,

Well i took the car in today and it appears i need a new boot catch and wiring loom. Both of which and the labour for fitting them are being billed to the sales dept of my dealer. They said it was something that should have been picked up by them before i bought the car from them last year. So good result really. Just got to take it in for them to do the work next week.
