Spacers??

Post by Endi_GTI »

I am looking at getting some wheel spacers for the GTI but not sure how far i can go out. At the moment i have the standard RXII's and are 6j wide. I am lowered, but not a lot. I don't really want any rubbing but would like to fill out the arches a bit more. I was thinking 15mm on the rear and 5mm on the front (like Godderz23) , but was wondering if i went to 20mm on the rear and 10mm on the front would i get rubbing issues?

I am going to get some G60's on this winter but i think that they are the same size.

Please help :)

I run 20 front and 25 rear mate with big tyres and it rubs so I reckon 15 front and 20 rear should be ok for you, more if you run stretch like me lol....

Depends how low you are really.Im running but 15mm rears but am not low at all,i think 15-20mm will be fine at most heights unless you're low low already.

Cheers guys, Think i'm gona go for around 15 - 20 rear and maybe 10 up front. Im not that low at all, take a look at the picture. I will do some measuring as well i think. The OEM spacing just seems really far back in the arch. Looking for a wider stance 8)

As said i have 15's on the back and 5's up front. Scrubs a little bit on full lock/going over bumps to quick, but i think for the ride height i have they work pretty well.

Maybe try a set of 15's on the back first, if they dont stick out as far as you'd like, put them on the fronts and get bigger one's on the back.

Also get hubcentric one's if possible mate. Anything bigger than 10mm non hubcentric will likely equal a fair bit of wheel wobble at higher speeds.

Yeah definatly mate 8) would be good to see yours.

Good idea about trying the 15's. Think i will go for the FK ones off Venom, seem pretty fairly priced.

Let me know when your fully fixed up :) You will then see how bad mine actually is in person

Are there any handling benefits with using spacers?

I guess that there would be Nigel. As the car would have an overall wider wheel span there would be more downward force to the road when cornering instead of outward force (tipping over/roll) in a corner. I think it would be flatter overall but not sure how much of a difference it would actually make. I am mainly getting some just so it looks better 8)

Coupled with a rear ARB it may improve handling then?

There's a group buy in the Rear ARB thread ;-) :P

Thanks for the help guys,

Just been measuring, from what i can see if i get 15's on the rear i should not get any rubbing at all, but i guess the question to Godderz and Bradley is do you think you could get away with 20mm on the rear and 10mm on the front at my ride height?? Thanks again :D

Wider track can't help - but in fitting spacers please be aware that you are moving the leverage point on the wheel bearings

The reason manufacturers decide on a certain ET is to centre the load of the wheel on the wheel bearing centres - going outside the OE settings can result in the need for frequent wheel bearing replacement - I say can because it's not a guarunteed think but certainly more likely
