6N2 GTI Headlight range problem!!! SOLVED!!!

Post by Mart!n-GTI-DK »

Hi.

I Have a 6N2 GTi.

I noticed a few weeks ago that my left headlight was shining way too low.

I then went to a mate of mine that has VAGcom. The problem is now that VAGcom can't find the xenon headlight's or the automatic range control.
So I have no way of correcting the range motors, where one is pointing all the way down and the other is a little to low...

Has anyone tried anything like this? Or have any idea of what could be wrong???

I Really need your help on this one... :(

It maybe that the adjuster is broken. It's a common problem where the little ball joint made of plastic snaps
Mine went a while ago. The near side one went first then a little while later the drivers side.
My boyfriend taped them up for a year (this ment they didn't auto adjust) but a year later the tape wore out, and they drooped just before the MOT (which it failed on) so I had to buy new headlights.
But some people do do a bit of dismantling and replacing the broken part.

Hope this helps

I have checked the headlights... And there is nothing broken...

But if that were the case it would still be able to find it on VAGcom...

When mine broke we couldn't see anything was broken, until we took it apart.
(though we could rattle it)

If you can't hear a rattle/ sure nothings broken then it may be a fault inside the little motor
Which may be why vagcom isn't picking up on it at all.

Now I have fiddled with it today and found that the bracket between the leveling sensor and the rear axle was broken in the joint closest to the axle.

Now I removed the bracket and moved the arm on the leveling sensor all the way up. But now I can hear that the leveling motors are making small adustments all the time?
Is that normal? I haven't noticed it doing that in the 2 years I have had it.
But in case my leveling has been off in all that time I hope someone can tell me if it's normal.

I pulled the range sensor off today and found that it had shorted out... So on with a new one and the linkage for the rear axle. and hopefully that'll be that. :)

I just got my parts the other day.

Ordered the height sensor plus everything around it (Brackets, heat shields, screws and so forth) I paid €165 ~ £145 for the lot...

It is an expensive piece of kit... And then you have to get it coded and get the basic setup of it done with VAGcom after it's installed. Othervise it dosn't do anything.

Ouch! That's a lot! Damn headlights!
I had to pay £147(+vat) for each headlight a while back.
The cost of the two headlights cost more then my first car lol. painful! :|
