Endi_GTI's GTI: Typhoon Shlurpie carnage
Re: Endi_GTI's GTI
My button sits and operates fine.I used the Chrome origional one,i also trimmed the bottom of the 9N3 handbrake cover mine dosen't move a great deal and only moves if pulled quite hard.I think by trimming the small flap underneath that locks the cover in place to the same length/position as the origional cover all will be resolved i just havent got around to doing it yet.

Sounds like a good idea Bradley, will hopefully get some time to look at it soon.
Small Update:
Ordered some 15mm wheel spacers, pictures up soon when they arrive

Re: Endi_GTI's GTI
Not sure Ben, i would like to go a bit lower but thinking of getting a jetex system like Verity's soon and the roads around where i live are a bit more like trails rather than roads. You need a KTM not a low polo lol
I may do for the summer if i am staying at my student house in the city. Will see how rubbing issues look if i do go any lower. I helped my mate slam his polo 6N 1.0 last night on coilovers. It was so low i couldn't fit my finger in the arch. It rubbed a bit too much so think we will have to raise that up a bit. Looked insane though.

Re: Endi_GTI's GTI
I know exactly how you feel mate, I have the exact same problem on the roads by my house.
I could run the car slammed on 95% of the roads but the little farm lanes by my house are really unforgiving and dont get along with lowered cars.
Once I get my Mongoose exhaust removed I will drop it a little more at the back and around 20mm at the front because i'm not very happy with its current stance, looks too high at the front.
Have a good long think about the exhaust mate, I rushed into getting mine and have regretted it ever since, in a sense I blew over £300 on something I never liked that much. Twin pipes do look awesome and i'm not knocking the Jetex system but I think you would be better off with a hidden custom made system.
In the future if you decide you want the GTI lower then you can do so without any problems, otherwise you might end up with the same problems I have with clearance.
3" twin pipes also look a little too big on the back of a Polo, the Golf gets away with it more due to its huge ass
Look forward to seeing more updates though mate

Re: Endi_GTI's GTI
I'll second that...
Custom hidden exhaust all the way, It will just scrape everywhere otherwise

Re: Endi_GTI's GTI
Cheers guys, Have been thinking about this for ages. I do like the thought of the powerflow systems being hidden. I like the look of the jetex but i think i would have to cut the bumper out to avoid scrapage. I just like the look and the quality of the jetex. I looked into the scorpion systems as well but i don't really like the tailpipe choices they do.
I have heard some bad stuff about the custom powerflow jobs round here, saying stuff like the stainless is c**p and they don't last very long. I just feel that the kit is a tried and tested system and would hopefully bring the biggest power gains to the car. I will have to do some measurements and see if it would fit high enough up above the road and see how much bumper i would have to trim out.
Its such a hard decision im still not really too sure what to do

Re: Endi_GTI's GTI
Id still suggest hidden, I do like the the look of the twin tail pipe but when you have to cut a hole in your bumper, i dont like the idea of that and I doubt youll be able to get it much higher to avoid the scraping.
I ended up traveling an hour away to get my custon one..
But yeah, custom hidden...

Re: Endi_GTI's GTI
If you want maximum power gains then your best bet is a custom made system with a sports cat.
Powerflow have a lifetime guarntee so the stainless must be pretty good for them to offer that.
The Jetex system is similar to my Mongoose system, they will fit on a 6N2 no problem but they are not specifically designed for the GTI which suggests the power gains will be very minimal. I'm running a cat back system on mine and have noticed no difference whatsover to performance, sounds good but doesnt feel any quicker or more responsive.
Stainless Manifold, Sports CAT (or De-Cat) and a Custom Exhaust will see the best gains.
10bhp should be achievable and possibly 1 or 2 more with a de-cat.

Another vote for hidden here. Prefer the look of the back without them.
Re: Endi_GTI's GTI
If you go for any twin pipe deff go Jetex.Endi_GTI wrote:Not sure Ben, i would like to go a bit lower but thinking of getting a jetex system like Verity's soon and the roads around where i live are a bit more like trails rather than roads..
I love mine it looks good, is a great quality and the sound- oh the sound!
- however having said that I am planning on getting a custom hidden at some point (since the bf mooshed mine on a curb hurmf) I can't explain why I want something different, I do love it and don't have to many probs with clearage (having an up hill curved drive sucks!)
I just fancy a change.
Go lower Before the exhaust.
You may like being lower and stay with that and go for a Custom hidden.
...you may find you have enough room for the Jetex.
Or you may find you don't like/ can't stay low. And raise it back up and get the Jetex after all

Re: Endi_GTI's GTI
Jetex are very good systems as are scorpion, magnex & mongoose.
The best twin pipe exhaust system for the GTI was the Supersport system but unfortunately that was discontinued several years ago, all 4 of the exhausts above have fairly large back boxes which can cause issues with lowered cars.
The reason the supersport looked so good is because it was designed for the GTI and not the 1.0 or 1.4 models, if you look at the Jetex, Magnex & Mongoose systems you will see that they are universal for all the Petrol model 6N2 Polos.
The Jetex systems probably have the smallest back box which is better for clearance but as Verity said your best bet would be to lower the car a little more first and see how it feels & looks. I think the custom exhaust with hidden tail pipe is the way forward, you dont get the look of the twin pipes but you get the same sound without any scrubbing issues.
I think i'm right in saying that Verity's GTI is lowered on 40mm Springs and not coilovers so if her car was sitting another 20-25mm lower like yours might be in the future then that could create further issues.
I'm hoping to get mine done in the next few weeks coupled with a 200 cell sports cat (MOT legal....when warm
)
Dont let me put you off though mate, just giving you my 2 pence I just hope you dont have the same problems that I have had with my exhaust

Re: Endi_GTI's GTI
Aye thats tru, I am only 40mm I'm not a fan of going really low so I'm pretty safe with my exhaust.
Plus I've attually just remembered I don't think my exact one is made anymore. When mine got smooshed I went looking. There's similar ones but not the exact same around
Deffinatly see how you go by lower first
