Heater has a mind of its own

Recently I have noticed that my heater has been playing up. Whenever I put it on a setting above the blue area at the cold end of the dial the car becomes extremely hot inside, way above the 18 degrees I set it to. Sometimes it works but most of the time it just seems the heaters are on full and the only way to make it a bearable temperature in the car is to turn it to the coldest setting. My car has the standard climatic air con/heating which im aware has an interior temperature sensor so was wondering would this be what is causing the problem and if so where is it located.

Alright Mate theres a possibility it could be the heater matrix as my old 9n used to have that problem... would be on warm when i went to put it on cold it wouldnt go down unless i kept turning the heater dial...

Sounds like the V68 flap motor - reknowned for playing up. Mine's shagged as well, I'll sort it out in the summer when the weater's a bit better.

Did you ever get your old car fixed Dan? Can pretty much guarantee it's not the heater matrix...

no mate sold the car last summer it had a mind of its own some days it would work others not :/ i was told it could be the matrix hopefully not for you though mate as K.I.T.T. said.

I thought it might be the heater flap motor as ive heard its a common problem. I supoose ill have to have a look as well when the weather is better, at least ive got my haynes manual to help me out. Just had a read through and it seems confusing but i suppose its just the bad google translation. Would everything be on the opposite side of the car for me due to my car being right hand drive

Should my aircon work if the climate control isnt functioning because it i put the setting right to the bottom it doesnt blow out hot air but at the same time the air isnt cold so the aircon clearly isnt working. I was just wondering because it might mean the aircon needs servicing as well.

I'd bet money your AC is fine. Mine wouldn't work very well either, but now works spot on even though the car's over 8 years old.

Give me a couple of days, am finishing up a guide on how to replace the motor. I've taken lots of pics too.

Im in Hertfordshire. I was at the dealers the other day and asked how much a V68 motor would be and was told it would be £103. Ill have a look at trying to fix my current motor before spending that amount on what is basically a motor with a potentiometer and some cogs attatched. Good to know that my aircon should be fine though because i bet it would of cost a fortune to get it serviced.
