key fob programming?
key fob programming?
Help! My 2001 GTi came with two keys, one of which was iffy. I've fixed the iffy one but can't pair it with the car. I've tried the method which involves one in the ignition, the other in the door to no avail. Any ideas please? Thanks!

Re: key fob programming?
Is this to disable the alarm, or start the car you are having issues with?
You may need a new receiver from hickleys.co.uk

Alex, it's to lock / unlock the car. The light flashes on the key but no action. It does start the car OK so the transponder is good.

Re: key fob programming?
i've just recieved my spare key back from repair. The red led now flashes when I press but doesn't unlock the car
The person who fixed it also provided instructions to pair back with the car but it doesnt seem to work.
Instructions I recieved:
1. switch ignition on
2. insert key to be programmed into drivers door
3. lock vehicle manually
4. press lock or unlock button
5. wait at least 1 second
6. press lock or unlock button again
7. vehicle horn sounds to indicate correct programming
Has anyone got any experience in programming keys; are the above instructions correct???
