Squeak/strange noise help

Hi all

I've had some noise coming from my Polo GTI for about a month now. The Easter break is coming up so will get some time to jack up the car and have a good look. Wonder if anyone has any pointers for me?

Symptoms:
- Very loud squeak, which can be heard on motorways (70mph).
- It doesn't always squeak (intermittent) and usually starts about 10 minutes into my journey. Rather than a constant sqeeeeeeeeeak, it's more like squeak-squeak-squeak-squeak ...with the "speed" of the squeak being in time with the road speed. Sounds metallic (metal surfaces rubbing together).
- Squeak stops if I apply the brakes or pull up the hand brake slightly
- If I go dead straight, no noise but if I turn left or turn right gently the squeak starts.
- At times, I can hear a faint popping or knocking noise but it's very faint with radio/road/wind/engine noise so maybe just my imagination.
- Braking and handling feels absolutely fine still

When were your pads/ discs last changed?

Bolts - I hope so! I did have tyres fitted recently but the noise started before I did that.
Pads/Discs - About 1.5 years ago when I first got the car.
