Re: Endi_GTI's GTI: Small Update

Post by Endi_GTI »

Few small updates i haven't shared with you guys yet:

Firstly i have replaced the RXII centre caps with nice new fresh ones. The old ones were really bad:

Secondly i have replaced the rear numberplate lights. I did have LED bulbs but i was constantly have to replace them for some reason. So i found these 8) :

They are so bright they light up the floor. Could almost be used as fog lights

As you may have seen i have also bought some BBS RC 16 inch wheels. These are the same as the 25th anniversary golf ones but obviously in a smaller size. Hope they look good. May need some work but think i will just use them for this summer. I am getting them in about 2 weeks so watch this thread :D

Re: Endi_GTI's GTI: CV Boot Gone Again :(

Post by Endi_GTI »

Thanks for the positive comments guys. Really can't wait to get them on. The guy selling them phoned me today and said he will be coming down to the South West this weekend and he could probably bring them down for me. So that would save me a whole load of gas :D

No don't think they are mate but they seem to be very similar. I got them from HIDs4U. Where only £15 :)

On the other hand i have some sad news. My nearside CV boot has split AGAIN!!!! CV grease all over my nice clean RXII  I really don't know why these keep splitting. I have been fitting them as carefully as possible but just seem to be s**t quality.

Are you using original CV boots? Copy parts are absolute s**t quality compared to VAG ones when it comes to boots

Its possible you are putting the far boot too far back on the drive shaft, therefore straining the boot. Should go up to the ridged lines

I didn't the first time Alex and blamed it on them not being genuine. However this time i did use an original one and it now has a tiny split in it which has spewed all the grease out all over the place. Maybe im just unlucky :( I have been doing it up to the line like you said. Not sure, just a bit frustrating :(
Trottagti wrote:Shelf life may be affecting the old rubber....
Cheers Trotta. Not really sure. Got it from VW last time and yeah maybe it was on the shelf for a long time. On the other hand I am getting quite good at doing them now :) (OR NOT AS THEY KEEP FAILING  ) Think this time i will blame it on the shear power of the car  Just tears them off

They not made of rubber craig - its a neoprene compound as rubber cant withstand the grease.

It can also happen if you over pack the grease

It has split on the outer fold on the inside (Closest to wheel) Hard to explain. Will make a diagram lol:

Its not very good but you get the idea
