New member with Polo on order! Retrofitting?

Post by tompitt87 »

Hi guys! New member here!

Ordered myself a shiny new Gti last week, paid the £500 deposit to get the ball rolling and im due to go in to sign the paperwork this Sat. However since ordering ive been looking around various forums including this one and seen many reports of people quoting 5/6/7(!!) month lead times on Polo GTIs! Also saw someone post that theyd ordered one the week before me and they said they werent expecting it till the end of October!

I was told by the dealer that it "should" be ready for September the 1st (shiny new reg! :P) but now im starting to think he might of told me that to secure the deal (commission for him?) and its going to be longer, maybe a LOT longer?! He was very sure to point out that there "could be delays"....

Just wondering what you guys thoughts were on that? Is it something they do very often? basically lie to secure an order i mean... Reason i ask if that im rather impatient and dont really want to wait 6 months for a car! Also, he said there was "one in the pipeline" that would be ready in 12 weeks whatever that means. So im wondering wether to try and get that one instead, even if it means not having a new reg.

However if i do that i dont know if you can retrofit the options i have ordered: Tints, convenience pack (dimming RVM + rain sensor), sensor pack (rear p.sensors + c.control), RCD 510 and MFSW. Any ideas if these could be added later? or which ones can assuming some cant? Main ones i want are the cruise control (lots of long motorway driving) and the RCD510

Sorry for the VERY long 1st post on here lol!

For those who dont want to read all that:

1) Is expecting delivery 1st Sept for one ordered around in the last week realistic?
2) Can i cancel/change my order from a built-to-order GTI to one already in the pipeline?
3) Can you retrofit the options i have ordered?

Any responses will be GREATLY appreciated as i only really have till Sat morning to decie what to do! Thanks in advance guys!!

Hi and welcome to the forum. Yes there are delays I ordered mine early June 10 and it arrived mid Nov. My dealer never promised a delivery date until build week was confirmed. They told me mid Dec so managed my expectations. If you can't wait then try and order one that is already in the country if possible ask your dealer. Also find out spec of one in the pipeline as this might be one ordered and has been cancelled by customer and depending upon where it is in the pipeline you might be able to change the spec? Yes the cruise and RCD 510 can be retro fitted.

I could not wait for a factory order, I was lucky to get one that someone else had ordered and then cancelled. I want cruise control but I have spoke to 3 different dealerships who say that it can not be retro fitted yet. Is this true?

Hi

I found this website when looking for some bits to be added to mine, I havent used them, but they do appear to offer retro fitting cruise control with genuine vag parts for the 6r.

I am getting few items retro fitted on my cousin car, 2011 6R Moda the RCD 510 can be retro fitted and also the cruise control. As my friend work for VW :) but the cost of the small loom which, plugs in to the stalk is expensive!

Thanks for the replies guys! Much appreciated

The cruise control is one i DEFINITELY want, ive got it on my Golf at the moment and dont think id be able to live without it now! Not when i have to do 3/4hr+ motorway journeys quite often. Plus i like the look of the RCD510 (got the 310 in my Golf) so those are the 2 i would want retro fitted if i had a non built to order jobby :) i think i could do without the rest of the stuff i added originally, plus it would save a bit of money :P

Id have to have anything fitted directly through VW though as im buying it on finance and im sure i wouldnt be allowed to have other people messing with it! Im assuming the cost of having stuff retro'd is the cost it is to add them in the first place plus a little bit for the time/labour involved?

Ill let you know what the verdict is once ive been in on Sat!

The cost of the RCD 510 is in the mark of £1000 Plus labour charges. But go for the one with DAB Radio instead! 8)

WHAAAT?! Its only £295 to add it as an option! No way ill be paying a grand to have it added later lol! Hopefully theres one about with it already installed! Only that and the cruise control i definitely want, the rest i can live without if it means getting it earlier :P

Think he means the RNS-510 (the Nav version) not the RCD-510 :D

RCD-510's appear on ebay quite often for the £250-350 mark. Fitting is a doddle and takes all of 5 minutes (no coding required).

Lol that price is based for a purchase outright, where as dealer option would best financial solution for your pocket.
I had my car order with RCD 510, but should of original opted for RNS 510! :(

you cant have a rns 510 on the polo the sat nav option is a rns 315 no dvd or hdd playback

im sure they all would require coding with vcds as well

Yeah that sounds more like what id expect tbh. Id happily pay £3-400 to have it fitted later on. Hopefully theyll have one around somewhere in the country or already being built i can nab so i havent gotta wait till Sept/Oct! I think the upgraded aircon and tints are overpriced anyway so not too fussed about those. And as im not 65+ i dont need rear parking sensors lol!

Just the cruise control MFSW and RCD510 will do me just fine! Will report back tomorrow :)

I cant find the prices on the website anywhere? :S can you point me in the right direction? :)

I assumed it would be about £3-400 based on the fact its less than £300 to spec it in the 1st place and as someone else said you can get them on ebay for less than 400....

EDIT: Found it! http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/acce ... =30&max=10

£1011 !!!!!! cant be that much if i say i want it added before i order it surely?!
