Big brakes
Big brakes
due to my pads getting down and will need changing shortly, i have been wondering about putting bigger brakes on, mainly just for looks and to add my own touch to the car, has anyone else does this? or can anyone shine some light on this idea? prices etc...?
Re: Big brakes
Cheapest & Easiest option for bigger breaks would be to go down the G60 option. If you've got a 6n2 gti, then its even easier as you only need to get ahold of a pair of carriers, and you can reuse your gti calipers and pads. The disc size is 280mm i believe, and its a good little upgrade. Otherwise, you're looking at 4pot+ calipers, and they're a whole different game. PhilJ (good mate of mine) over at clubpolo is doing a custom kit for the polo at the moment for big brake upgrades for the polo. Has everything including the calipers themselves, adaptors, brake discs & pads etc..

Re: Big brakes
G60 brakes make a big difference. Running them on mine!
Re: Big brakes
If you can spare some more cash, go change your master brake cylinder to a 22mm one. (You can get em off an old-skool passat, circla 1998~ from GSF) They reduce that spongey brake pedal thats common in gti's. I've bought one, yet cannot be arsed to bleed my brake system again, not until I have to repaint my calipers anyway
Re: Big brakes
I wish i never sold my G60 caliper carriers now

Re: Big brakes
If you wanted something a little bigger again there is a guy over on clubpolo called philj, owns a company called jackson tuning. He sells three different sized big brake conversions for the 6n2, they all have 6pot callipers and he has three different sized discs he can supply with these cant remember the szies of the discs but i do remember that you will need at least 15", 16" and 17" wheels for the 3 different kits respectively and they rand from £680 up to about £800 i believe....but they are monster sized discs...some serious stopping power!!

Is this what's needed along with 280mm discs for a G60 to upgrade the brakes? If that's all I think I may just do that this summer
EDIT http://www.vwspares.co.uk/corrado_brakes.php Perhaps a better link there

Re: Big brakes
Im sure the callipers themselves are needed aswell as the pads are slightly larger.
Re: Big brakes
If you've got a Polo GTi, then you only require the G60 Carriers & Discs. (280mm) You can reuse your calipers & pads, and thus not have to faff around with a custom brake-line job

Re: Big brakes
That would mean if you have a polo tdi aswell then you can reuse the calliper and pads as i believe the 6n2 gti and tdi have the same break setup!

Re: Big brakes
GTI and TDI have different brakes. GTI are thicker discs

Re: Big brakes
Sorry mate should have been abit clearer, same diameter discs but yes the tdi discs are 5mm thinner than their gti counterparts. But callipers are the same im sure just the gti ones come painted as standard
