6n2 management light fault reading

Hi, my check engine/management light has cam on on my 6n2 Gti, I've tried resetting the light via removing the negative on the battery and leaving the door open for 3 minutes and turning the ignation on for 3 mins etc but the light is still on. Im sure I saw a guide where the climate control can be used to find the fault number, I've had a search but cant seem to find the guide(not sure if it was on here or club polo) does anybody have an idea on how to do this or the link to it?
