Anybody know where to get these from? my local un helpful dealer didnt want to know and i cant find them on ebay or the net.
Details bellow
Cutaway 22 mm deep socket shown is Volkswagen special tool no 3078 (order no. T03 078 000 40 ZEL).
Ive found a US supplier but dont really want to pay the shipping and wait a week for it to turn up!

Will an angle grinder not convert a normal deep socket?

If all else fails then yes.
Spoken to another VW dealership today and they want 60 quid for it so it seems im digging the angle grinder out!

This isn't a standard Lambda probe socket is it? I've forgotten if its 22mm! If it is for a Lambda probe removal, then maybe check that a ring or O/E spanner (maybe cut down) will not do the job as it did on my wife's 1.4 Polo - although I did buy the proper socket but could not find the space to use it!

do you just want to remove your top mounts from the strut assembly?

yeah pretty much, swan neck spanner isnt deep enough for me to get to the bolt on mine and yeah i can windy gun it off but dont want to put them on like that as there is no control over torque settings and it can damage the topmount

use these in work very handy for when gunning things up and have tested tourques after with tourque wrench they are reliable
failing that i wrap the damper shaft with a thick cloth and use a mole grips to hold whilst i tourqe the top nut.

They look useful for profesional use but for 1 time use perhaps not.
just gonna grind the top of the socket down so i can get an adjustable spanner onto it and stick the allen key through the middle.

You need a sparkplug socket thats what i use as it has flats on the top for an adjustable!

Yup, that worked perfectly well for me, ie like made for this job on this car! I'm not sure if I got a "crow's foot" spanner bit to fit it and torque wrench or just used my mechanical knowledge (experience) of how much torque to apply without using a torque wrench.hufcforpromotion wrote:You need a sparkplug socket thats what i use as it has flats on the top for an adjustable!
