Had probably the best day with the gti yesterday in terms of progress!

Lets start with the first picture... Anyone guess what these are???

Image

and then with the other part?

Yep that's right, Cruise Control! accompanied by a new airbag slip ring. I thought i may aswell do the cruise mod whilst the steering wheel was off for a new slipring..

Picked it up for £86 from VW, and set about fitment! I used a mixture of the guide on club lupo and some german translated sites. Basically fitted the stalk, ran the stalk loom under the dash, then set about making a 4 wire loom from the stalk loom to the ecu inc. 12v switch live. I test wired it all in VAGCOM before wrapping the custom loom, and it worked first time :D

Ecu Plug

Wrapping the custom loom

and on the other side, soldering the wires together..

Mid progress:

For referance ( as the hardest part was finding which pins on the ecu the wires go into )

Switch plug Pin 1 (white) to ECU PIN 68
Switch plug Pin 2 (blue) to ECU PIN 67
Switch plug Pin 3 (red) to ECU PIN 66
Switch plug Pin 4 (black) to ECU PIN 69 & ignition power

and when testing in VAGCOM, the measuring block in engine is 066 , NOT 006 or 022 that some other sites were saying. Once i was happy with the functionality of it in Vagcom, i took it for a 'cruise' 8) Very impressed how good the system is, e.g If you are at 70, slow now for a hazard or something ( deactivates cruise) if you hit the RES button it takes you back up to 70! ( cheers Alex )

The slip ring was an easy fix, just out with the old on with the new. Initially had the airbag light still there but cleared the fault in vagcom and it's all good :)

Nice mod Joe! Cruise control is one of the things I'd love to have on my GTI... I know you've given a good bit of info in here but how about a DIY guide? ;)

Few more update piccys:

New kenwood headunit- BEAST of a machine, well worth the 190, customizable colour illumination, ipod, bluetooth, remote control

Image

Polishing progress from last weekend- got the bonnet and wings done. Weather this week has been to unpredictable to continue :(

Image

Right hand side of the bonnet looks scoured in comparison!

Image

( will do a full shoot once completed!)

and to finish :)

Nigel: Should have taken more pictures so i could do a guide of some sort- However i used this guide for everything bar the ecu pin numbers :http://forums.clublupo.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=44327

Martin: Yes everything is included in the kit apart from the wiring from the ecu to the stalk plug. You need to source these yourself. I had some good quality speaker wire which worked well.

Chris, i don't do the miles either- but thought it was a worthwile toy :P
